Colo. Teen Fights for Restroom Rights

Transgender teen Dionne Malikowski is transferring schools after a blow-up at her Fort Collins, Colo. high school over her use of a girls' restroom.

Malikowski, 16, was suspended a month ago for using a girls' restroom; she says she was in a hurry and urgently had to use the facilities. Malikowski has been reprimanded before for using the girls' bathroom, even though she identifies as female. While school officials at Fort Collins High School allow Malikowski to use staff restrooms, they tell the local press that there are safety concerns regarding her use of restrooms used by other female students.

"I don't think I'm going to get harassed in the female bathroom. I think it would be more of a safety issue if I was using the male's bathroom," Dionne says. Read the full story here.
