Nearly 100,000 Australian Grindr users' information has been acquired by a hacker, and even tampered with, as the popular smartphone app has become the target of attack. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the hacker could also sign in as any user, change the user's profile, and intercept messages and photos sent to the user.

Security experts reported that the app had "no real security," according to the Herald. The app uses a smartphone's global positioning system to help gay men find other gay men in their vicinity. Users can then exchange messages or photos, or decide to meet.

"We are certainly aware of a lot of these vulnerabilities," Joel Simkhai, the app's creator, told the Herald. "They will be fixed as fast as humanly possible."

Simkhai said a security update that was being planned for the coming weeks has since been expedited, and a patch is being developed to address lingering security issues.
