The NAACP announced this year's nominees for its annual Image Awards including openly gay director Paris Barclay for his work on Sons of Anarchy, Archie Panjabi for her performance as bisexual attorney Kalinda Sharma in The Good Wife, and gay author Justin Torres for his book We The Animals. Openly gay director/screenwriter Tate Taylor's screenplay adaptation of The Help, Anderson Cooper's syndicated talk series Anderson, and up-and-coming actress Adepero Oduye's performance in Pariah, a butch, lesbian coming-of-age story, were also nominated.

Modern Family was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series, while Pariah is also nominated for Outstanding Motion Picture, and Grey's Anatomy for Outstanding Drama Series.

The NAACP Image Awards celebrates positive portrayals of people of color and the community through the arts, literature, and social activism. The award show airs February 17 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
