Jessica Lange Will Be Focus of American Horror Story
The second season of American Horror Story will be "the Jessica Lange show" but she won't be playing fan favorite Constance, co-creator Ryan Murphy tells Entertainment Weekly.
To many fans season one of the FX hit haunted house series already seemed like the Jessica Lange show, with her meddling neighbor Constance emerging as the clear fan favorite and garnering the two-time Academy Award-winning actress a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild award for her performance. But when the series returns in October, Lange will play an entirely new character and the new storyline will be set in what Murphy previously revealed is an East Coast horror institution.
"We have designed the second season of American Horror Story completely around her character," Murphy tells EW. "Last year Jessica came in with Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott. This will really be the Jessica Lange show so I'm very excited about it. We are designing this amazing new opposite of the Constance character for her. She and I have spoken about different things. She has a lot of ideas, and has a lot of input into her character. She told me some things she has always wanted to play as an actress. She's a great collaborator and a great friend."
Other cast members may return as new character and additional details are expected to be revealed tomorrow when cast members participate in the PaleyFest in Beverly Hills.
