Jose Orozco, Arizona sheriff Paul Babeu's ex-boyfriend, announced plans Tuesday to sue both Babeu and Pinal County, The Arizona Republic reports.

Orozco's attorneys filed a notice of claim, a document detailing the intent to sue, seeking $1 million in unspecified damages. Babeu is currently running for a seat in Congress in Arizona's newly formed fourth congressional district.

"A notice of claim was provided to our office earlier today regarding this matter," said Tim Gaffney, the director of communications and grants for the sheriff's office. "As with any pending civil litigation, it would be inappropriate to comment at this time."

Babeu's relationship came to light February 17 after the Phoenix New Timesreported that the sheriff had threatened Orozco with deportation if he revealed the relationship. Babeu came out publicly the following day, but has denied the allegations.

His sister has also made claims that Babeu had an inappropriate relationship with a student while headmaster at a school in Massachusetts, according to ABC affiliate KNXV-TV.
