Dharun Ravi, the former Rutgers student accused of spying on his gay roommate, wrote "keep the gays away" in a text message shown at his trial.

Ravi was writing to his onetime friend Michelle Huang, who testified in the New Jersey trial Monday. Ravi is facing numerous charges, including bias intimidation, for secretly taping a sexual encounter between roommate Tyler Clementi and another man. Not long after discovering he was taped, Clementi ended his life.

Huang says that Ravi encouraged her to watch footage that he captured of Clementi and his partner, known only as M.B. Ravi was also planning a viewing party at which the footage would be shown.

Ravi told Huang via text that he was "creeped out" by the footage. When Huang suggested Clementi might have sex on Ravi's bed, Ravi wrote, "My webcam checks my bed, hahaha. Yeah, keep the gays away." Read more here.
