Trial Testimony: Clementi Suspected Roommate Was Spying
Tyler Clementi, the Rutgers University freshman who in 2010 jumped to his death from the George Washington Bridge, suspected his roommate, Dharun Ravi, had spied on him via webcam during a sexual encounter, according to testimony in Ravi's trial.
Ravi, 20, is charged with multiple counts in Clementi's death, including invasion of privacy and bias intimidation. Gary Charydczak, a computer expert for Middlesex County prosecutors, testified Tuesday that Clementi visited Ravi's Twitter account dozens of times after he had an intimate encounter with another man, the New Jersey Star-Ledger reports.
Two days after Clementi's encounter, Ravi tweeted, "Roommate asked for the room till midnight. I went into molly's room and turned on my webcam. I saw him making out with a dude. Yay."
Clementi saved screenshots of two tweets from Ravi and quickly applied for a room change. He committed suicide hours later.
