A Salt Lake City, Utah man was charged with one felony for attempted forcible sodomy along with three misdemeanors after being arrested for the extortion of a Brigham Young University student he met on Craigslist. Brad Ray Adams is accused of extorting both money and sexual favors from the student to keep the sexual encounter, which Adams videotaped, from officials at BYU according to ABC News. Adams was arrested during a sting operation March 6, after he accepted money from the student to keep the encounter secret.

BYU's conduct policy does not allow sex outside of wedlock. Students who have violated the code previously have been suspended from the institution. BYU spokesperson Carri Jenkins told ABC that the victim has not yet been confirmed to be a student at the school. If he is a student, he will be referred to the Honor Code Office but not immediately expelled. "There would be a review. Each case is handled on an individual basis," Jenkins said.
