Libs of TikTok, one of the most extreme anti-LGBTQ+ accounts on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, and the platform’s billionaire owner have been attacking members of the LGBTQ+ community while changes to X plague it with continued chaos.

This week, Elon Musk implemented a change in how news articles are displayed on X and joined Libs of TikTok hate account owner Chaya Raichik attacking a transgender woman who pointed out the flaw. Whereas previously, headlines for articles were visible so that users could easily decide on what content to click on, now news articles contain no headlines. The posts are only images and a small credit to the site from which the information comes.

This led to confusion as users could no longer discern what a piece of content was without clicking on it.

Some took advantage of the ridiculousness and pointed out the deficiency in the new system.

On Wednesday, Harvard Law instructor Alejandra Caraballo, a frequent target of right-wing hatred as a transgender woman activist, posted a link that appeared to be to CNBC, writing, “Since you can't see the headline, Elon Musk was arrested after being found in the street in a ketamine induced fugue state.”

Elon Musk is shown in the image wearing a suit and surrounded by people who appear to be bodyguards.

The article actually goes to a CNBC story with the headline, “Elon Musk’s X gets rid of story headlines and links in some users’ feeds,” but because of the change to the platform’s display, that’s not clear when posted to X.

A popular account with more than 250,000 followers, @JUNlPER, also took advantage of the design shortcoming and posted a link to a Fortune article, according to the only thing displayed along with the article’s lead image of Musk.

“NEW SCOOP: evidence showing elon musk is a pedophile mounting quickly,” the account posted.

This was seemingly too much for the second-richest person alive. By Friday afternoon, the account was suspended without explanation.

NBC News senior reporter Ben Collins, who covers Musk and disinformation and who recently revealed the billionaire’s secret plan for the platform, wrote, “Hey Elon Musk, why was @JUNLPER suspended? Was her speech simply too free?”

After Caraballo had reposted the now-suspended account’s message the previous day, Raichik and Musk attacked her.

“This is the person that the media cites as an ‘online safety expert,’ Raichik wrote along with a screenshot that showed that Caraballo had reposted the @JUNIPER tweet.

The exchange led to Musk attacking Caraballo in a response to Raichik’s post.

“That person is [batshit] crazy,” he wrote using emojis, following a critique by Raichik.

Caraballo hit back in a dialogue on X with The Advocate.

“Chaya is terminally incapable of understanding jokes or satire but thinks it’s funny to incite bomb threats against elementary schools,” she said, referring to recent reporting on patterns of bomb threats to schools and hospitals attacked by the Libs of TikTok account.

Regarding Musk, Caraballo added, “I’d rather be batshit crazy than a deadbeat parent who disowns their own kid simply because they are trans.”

After the account suspension, Caraballo posted on X, “Comedy is illegal again.”

Earlier on Friday, the White House condemned Raichik for attacking a queer federal employee, something that Musk pays her for through a mechanism that monetizes some users’ engagement on the platform.

Trans journalist Erin Reed summed it up, “JUNlPER was suspended after Chaya Raichik, runner of Libs of Tiktok, complained to Elon Musk about a satire post showing how removing headlines leads to misinformation. The Libs of TikTok account has yet to be suspended despite calling people groomers and inciting bomb threats.”
