Cruising with criteria?

Though some could argue that the practice of "cruising" includes elements such as unpredictability, flexibility, and even a certain degree of anonymity at times, dating & hookup culture keeps rapidly evolving in this modern world — and a new feature from Sniffies certainly adds to that progression.

On Tuesday, April 30, map-based cruising platform Sniffies announced its latest feature, Cruiser Filters, which will allow users to filter their searches by different metrics such as age, preferred sexual positions, endowment size, body type, and sexuality.

In a press release, the company explains that "by leveraging this advanced filtering system, users can effortlessly discover fellow cruisers who align with their preferences, ensuring more meaningful connections and encounters."

The official announcement from Sniffies also highlights that its endowment filter is "generating considerable excitement among users," touting that this is a unique filter option among other hookup platforms and mobile apps.

Sniffies users can start using Cruiser Filters right away. Not only has the announcement been made, but the feature is already available for people using the platform.

There's been plenty of discourse, criticism, and concern over the years in regard to filters on hookup apps and platforms, which can lead to various types of discrimination against certain groups of people.

Some users have historically argued in favor of filters noting that they can eliminate unnecessary exchanges between people who weren't attracted to one another in the first place. On the other hand, many individuals have taken to social media in the past to share unfortunate stories about being discriminated against based on not meeting the (often very unrealistic) beauty standards that filters can encourage even further.

To be clear, however, Sniffies has only launched this new filtering system today, April 30 — so it's possible that things won't go in such a negative direction on the cruising platform. Other dating/hookup apps have gotten in hot water for enabling certain filters in the past, but it does appear that Sniffies is being more mindful of the filters being introduced to its users.
