Jackie Evancho garnered international attention when she sang "The Star Spangled Banner" at Donald Trump's inauguration. Her next act? A show on TLC.
TLC will air a one-hour special about the 17-year-old America's Got Talent star and her family called Growing Up Evancho. The production will feature her 19-year-old transgender sister, Juliet, who is pursuing a career as a model and activist.
"The sisters are at a crossroads individually and within themselves," TLC noted in a press release. "Both girls utilize their platforms to speak out against Trump's rollback of transgender rights while still trying to maintain a balance within their careers and family life."
Previously, Evancho defended her controversial decision to perform at the inauguration -- an event that was boycotted by many liberal entertainers. "It was for my country and because my president asked me to sing it. ... Who would say no to that? It was a huge honor, and I had to seize the opportunity," she said April on The View.
In the same interview, Juliet revealed how, in high school, she was bullied by parents and students, who were outraged by her use of restrooms that corresponded with her gender identity. Both sisters hope to speak about this issue with the Trump administration, which has rescinded guidelines protecting trans students.
"We would make him aware of what, me, as a transgender person, and [Jackie] have experienced at our school since all the turmoil. I've had things thrown at me," she said.
Their parents, Lisa and Mike, and younger siblings Rachel and Zach will also appear on the special, which will air Wednesday, August 9 at 10 p.m. Eastern on TLC.
