Former Miss America Deidre Downs Gunn, who won the 2005 competition, married girlfriend Abbott Jones, an attorney and writer, in a Saturday ceremony, reports People. The ceremony was held at the Birmingham, Ala., Museum of Art, with 200 guests present.

"Saying our vows in front of our family and friends and making that commitment to the love of my life was the most meaningful part of the day for me," said Downs Gunn. Downs Gunn, after winning her title, went on to graduate with an MD degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham. Downs Gunn and Jones met online in February 2017. Both women agree that it was love at first sight.

Downs Gunn "proposed on Christmas, after the pair had finished watching Jones' favorite Dr. Who Christmas special," according to People. After the first proposal, Jones planned her own proposal, including a plan to ask Downs Gunn's son for his approval. He approved, and Jones went on to propose to Downs Gunn by using Legos to reconstruct their first date.

"We both want to live our intention, chase our passions and do good in the world," Jones said about their relationship. "Deidre is more pure of heart and sensible. I'm more the risk taker, so we balance each other out."
