It's the Dog Day of summer -- literally.

Twitter lit up with photos, videos, and testimonials honoring dogs in celebration of National Dog Day, which was also trending as #InternationalDogDay on social media.

National Dog Day was founded in 2004 by Colleen Paige in order to honor personkind's best friend, shine a spotlight on the need to adopt these animals from rescue shelters, and speak out against puppy mills and backyard breeders where abuse occurs.

LGBTQ folks also have a special relationship with animals. In a world where queer people are often rejected and hated, dogs provide unconditional love and companionship.

Take a look at some of the doggone cutest photos from LGBTQ folks below. And remember to spay and neuter your pets!
