Golden State Warriors president Rick Welts wed his partner of nine years, Todd Gage, in a Friday morning wedding at San Francisco City Hall officiated by Mayor London Breed.

Welts previously served as president of the Phoenix Suns, but relocated to northern California to live with Gage. He was later hired by the San Francisco-based Warriors as president and chief operating officer, where he helped lead a team turnaround. Since his arrival in 2011, Welts has overseen three championship wins and five NBA finals appearances.

Welts came out shortly before leaving the Suns, becoming one of the very few openly LGBTQ people in professional sports. While there is a growing number of out executives, like Erik Braverman in Major League Baseball, and coaches, like Katie Sowers, there are currently no out players in professional male sports.
