Hunter Schafer, who plays trans teen Jules Vaughn on the hit HBO series Euphoria, is setting the record straight about her sexual identity.
In a 2019 interview with Dazed, Schafer said her sexuality is "closer to what you might call a lesbian." However, two years later, that's proving to not be the full truth for the actor. After a recent viral tweet identified her as a lesbian, Schafer followed up to clarify her sexuality.
"Hunter Schafer is a lesbian. congratulations lesbians. you've taken from me the one thing that matters most," read the viral post.
She replied: "As much as I wish this were true I would like to vaguely clarify that unfortunately, I am like bi or pan or something."
While some were confused by Schafer's choice of words, many offered support and celebrated her explanation.
One user commented, "Hunter Schafer bi or pan legend."
Another wrote, "Miss [Hunter Schafrer] said: bisexual or pan or something rights."
Next up for Schafer is season two of Euphoria, which premieres on Jan. 9, 2022.
Schafer recently told Harpers Bazaar that she feels that there's a "lot of" her Euphoria character, Jules, in her. "Blurred lines between an actor and a character make a deeper character," she said.
"I don't know if I've talked about this in the press before, but I think there's a phenomenon among the trans and queer community, and it's why we make great artists a lot of the time," Schafer told the magazine.
"When your exterior world and your body and your self are not in line with who you are, you turn inward. And my theory is that I built a really rich inner world until I started feeling like myself in my body. I've been trying to do the work of digging up stuff, but it's going to take a while to excavate everything," she said.
