Gloria Carter, mother to rapper and business mogul Jay-Z, married her longtime partner, Roxanne Wiltshire, over the weekend.
The wedding took place Sunday night in the famous Tribeca neighborhood of New York City. Per TMZ, the ceremony was attended by friends, family, and a host of celebrity guests, among them Tyler Perry, Kelly Rowland, Corey Gamble, and Robin Roberts.
Jay-Z first discussed his mother's sexuality in his 2017 track "Smile," where he raps, "Mama had four kids, but she's a lesbian ... had to hide in the closet, so she medicate."
"Cried tears of joy when you fell in love," he adds later. "Don't matter to me if it's a him or her." His mother is also featured on the song's spoken-word outro.
That same year, Carter herself described the moment she came out to her son on the D'Usse Friday podcast, Peoplereports. "I was sitting there and I was telling him one day. I just finally started telling him who I was. Besides your mother, this is the person that I am, you know? This is the life that I lived," she said.
"So my son started actually, like, tearing because he was like, 'That had to be a horrible life, Ma.' I was like, 'My life was never horrible. It was just different.' So that made him want to do a song about it," she continued.
In addition to the other celebrity guests, Jay-Z's wife, Beyoncé, and their oldest daughter, Blue Ivy, were in attendance. Bey, who is currently touring, sported a dazzling peach-colored bodysuit, skirt, and feathered jacket, and shared the look on her Instagram page.
