Kelly Clarkson gave some soul-crushing news to a queer fan: that Clarkson, in fact, isn’t queer.
During her opening weekend for her Las Vegas Residency, Chemistry, on Saturday, Clarkson saw a sign being held up in the audience.
In a video shared to social media by Pop Crave, the pop icon read some of the signs held by her fans.
She reads one, leaning over to take a better look.
“My girlfriend gave me a hall pass for you,” Clarkson read off. A hall pass refers to the permission given by a monogamous couple to allow one of them to sleep with someone else — most of the time that person is famous.
However, Clarkson turned down the fan.
“If I was into chicks, I’d take up the offer,” Clarkson told her sapphic admirer. She then added “I just unfortunately like d*cks.”
Clarkson has been an outspoken support for LGBTQ+ rights. In fact, lesbian fans call themselves “Kezbos.”
She told Pride Source in 2015 that she was very happy to know how much sapphics love her.
“I was like, ‘wait – there’s enough of you to have a group? That’s amazing! Awesome! Go me,’” she told the outlet.
Her 2013 video for the single “Tie It Up” even features a queer couple getting married, even though marriage equality wouldn’t be made law until 2015.
