Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have renewed their wedding vows.

De Rossi surprised DeGeneres with the vow renewal at a party at their Los Angeles-area home Tuesday for de Rossi’s 50th birthday, People reports. De Rossi changed into the gown she wore for their original ceremony, August 16, 2008, handed flowers to DeGeneres, and led her to Kris Jenner, who was ready to officiate the renewal. Brandi Carlile sang “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” to the couple. DeGeneres responded to the sight of Jenner with “Oh, my God!”

Jenner described the couple as “a match made in heaven, two peas in a pod,” adding, “Their love and commitment to one another is amazing, and it makes me so happy that they have each other to love and cherish and grow old with.”

De Rossi began by telling DeGeneres, “You don’t have to say anything at all, but when I was thinking about what would make my birthday really special, apart from being with family and friends, it was reminding you that you’re the most important thing in the world to me.”

The former Arrested Development star said her milestone birthday had caused her to think about her accomplishments, and she concluded, “What greater accomplishment can I ever, ever, ever, have in my life than being loved by someone who is so magnificent?”

She also said it feels like a new chapter for the couple, who’ve had 24 houses in 18 years but are now settling into what will be a permanent home and a life “where we just get to do whatever the hell we want for the rest of our lives.”

De Rossi invoked a Walt Whitman quote she used in the 2008 ceremony, saying, “It’s great to be loved, but it’s profound to be understood.” She said when they married in 2008, she thought they understood each other after knowing each other for four years, but now, after 14 more years, she knows they truly understand each other. DeGeneres knows exactly who de Rossi is and loves her for that, the actress said. “I will always, always love you; I am so honored to be your wife,” she finished to cheers from the guests.”

DeGeneres responded, “I just adore you, I love you, and I would not be on this earth without you. … You save me every day. I’m the lucky one.”

Guests included Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, in a rare public appearance, and Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston, Carol Burnett, Courteney Cox, Melissa Etheridge, Katy Perry, and Orlando Bloom.
