Sopranos Star Michael Imperioli Forbids 'Homophobes' From Watching His Work

Actor and screenwriter Michael Imperioli took to Instagram to speak out against the recent Supreme Court ruling that will allow businesses to refuse certain creative services to LGBTQ+ customers.

The Sopranos star shared a screenshot on of an article covering the ruling that reads, "Supreme Court protects web designer who won't do gay wedding websites."

In the post's caption, Imperioli writes, "I’ve decided to forbid bigots and homophobes from watching The Sopranos, The White Lotus, Goodfellas or any movie or tv show I’ve been in."

The New York-born actor rose to fame for his role as Christopher Moltisanti in the widely acclaimed mob series The Sopranos. In 2004, he won a Primetime Emmy for his part in the show's fifth season. In 2022, he joined the ensemble cast of season two of HBO's The White Lotus as Dominic Di Grasso, a Hollywood producer.

"Thank you Supreme Court for allowing me to discriminate and exclude those who I don’t agree with and am opposed to. USA! USA!," his caption concludes.

Imperioli added to his statement in a series of comments on the post, writing, "Hate and ignorance is not a legitimate point of view," "it’s called dehumanization," and "America is becoming dumber by the minute."

The case in question, 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis, began in 2016 when Lorie Smith, a web designer, wanted to claim that she would not create wedding websites for same-sex couples. She lost the case at the federal district court and appeals court levels before it was brought before the Supreme Court, whose 6-3 majority ruling in favor of Smith was announced Friday.

Numerous public figures have sharply criticized the ruling, among them U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Vice President Kamala Harris.
