Trevor Ott's portraits of Los Angeles leathermen are simple, but dense with information. Read more below.
Trevor Ott is a young photographer in Los Angeles who makes beautiful photos, mostly with natural light. His work can have a formal, Edwardian feel to it, like the society portrait paintings of John Singer Sargent -- except this is just another type of society. Many of the men in these portraits taken at the Off Sunset Festival have an alternative sexuality, not so mainstream. Many have tattoos, piercings, and other forms of body modification. Often there is a hypermasculine stance and posture. But with all the butch trappings that many of the men have here, the effect of the group of images is of men involved in a warm, bonded community. Trevor's portraits simply capture the men as they are; they don't add much, because there is already enough there.
