President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton were named the most admired people of the year in a Gallup poll. Obama landed the honor for the 10th time while Clinton has held on to the spot for 16 consecutive years, although the margin for winning was lower for both politicians than it has been in prior years, according to Gallup.
Donald Trump trailed Obama in second place for the men while Michelle Obama was close behind Clinton in second place for the women. Rounding out the top 10 for the men were Pope Francis, Rev. Billy Graham, John McCain, Elon Musk, Bernie Sanders, Bill Gates, Benjamin Netanyahu, Jeff Bezos, The Dalai Lama, and Mike Pence.
Following Michelle Obama in the top 10 for women were Oprah Winfrey, Elizabeth Warren, Angela Merkel, Queen Elizabeth, Condoleeza Rice, Melania Trump, Nikki Haley, Kate Middleton, and Beyonce.
Gallup, which has conducted its poll to determine the most admired person in the country 71 times since 1946 determines results "based on telephone interviews conducted Dec. 4-11, 2017, with a random sample of 1,049 adults, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia," according to Gallup.
As was to be expected, Trump won among Republicans with 35% of GOP members polled naming him the man they admire most while Obama nabbed praise from 39% of Democrats polled.
Gallup added that while Clinton won by a smaller margin than usual she has been named the most admired woman (or man) more than anyone in the poll's history.
