The Fox News journalist was unbowed after an unrelenting misogynistic assault from Trump surrogate Newt Gingrich.
Republican former House Speaker Newt Gingrich attacked Megyn Kelly on her show Tuesday, when she tried to discuss a videotape of GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump in which he advocated for sexual assault.
Gingrich was none too happy to discuss the matter, shaking his finger and accusing Kelly of being "fascinated with sex." She replied: "You know what Mr. Speaker, I'm not fascinated by sex, but I am fascinated by the protection of women and understanding what we're getting in the Oval Office and I think the American voters would like to know..."
The former Speaker deflected, asking why Kelly didn't devote more time to covering the allegations against former President Bill Clinton, who might also be entering the White House, though in a more indirect manner.
Kelly explained to Gingrich that Bill Clinton was not currently running for president. "The polls also show the American public is less interested in the deeds of Hillary Clinton's husband than they are in the deeds of the man who asks us to make him president, Donald Trump."
Kelly herself has had a history of strife with Trump. He has insulted her numerous times, at one point saying "I refuse to call Megyn Kelly a bimbo, because that would not be politically correct." Following her moderation of a Republican presidential debate, Trump famously accused her of treating him unfairly, telling CNN she had "blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever."
After Gingrich's outburst, Kelly reprimanded him. "You can take your anger issues and spend some time working on them, Mr. Speaker. Thanks for being here," she said.
"And you too," he said curtly.
