At Democrat Doug Jones's swearing-in ceremony for the U.S. Senate seat from Alabama he won in a race against accused sexual predator Roy Moore, his gay son Carson Jones was photographed shooting a pointed glance at virulent homophobe Mike Pence, who administered the oath of office. And the photo became an instant viral sensation.

But Carson Jones, who shared the picture of his side-eye at Vice President Pence along with the hashtag "no caption needed" on his personal Instagram account, later shared in an Instagram story that he'd actually taken his act of resistance against Pence and the Trump administration a step further and wore a rainbow boutonniere gifted to him by the DC Homos, although it wasn't visible in photos.

For his Instagram story, Carson Jones posted a photo of the rainbow flower pin with the caption "Hidden behind Doug's shoulder in the photos with the VP..." He also wrote "fail" for its lack of visibility in any of the photos.

DC Homos picked up on Carson Jones's story and tweeted it out.

Photos of the senator's son wearing the pin may not have made it to social media, but judging from his including it in his Instagram story, Carson Jones took an extra step to send a message to Pence, who as governor of Indiana signed a "license to discriminate" law, which would have allowed businesses to refuse service to LGBT people (it was eventually amended), and who pushed for his state to amend its constitution to ban same-sex marriage as the Defense of Marriage Act was being shredded on a federal level in 2013.

Shortly after Doug Jones's win in early December, Carson Jones confirmed to The Advocate that he is gay.
