For National Coming Day, Republican South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham announced that, despite numerous rumors and jokes, he is not gay.

This comes after comedian Chelsea Handler tweeted out that she suspects the ardent defender of accused attempted rapist- turned-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was taking the day off to celebrate the LGBTQ holiday on Thursday.

The next day, TMZ confronted Graham about Handler's tweets and got his response on video.

"It's a free country. She can say what she wants to say. I don't care," said Graham when asked about Handler's tweets. "She knows zero about me. To the extent that it matters, I'm not gay. These comments, I don't think they reflect well on her."

This is the second time Handler has tweeted that Graham must be a closeted gay man.

Graham is not alone in the sentiment that Handler's tweet that Graham is a member of the LGBTQ community is unproductive, contributing to an ongoing debate over whether it is appropriate to call homophobes gay.

Handler has not responded to accusations of homophobia nor deleted her tweet.
