Republican state representative Daryl Metcalfe had an odd -- and, to some, disturbing -- Facebook post on Friday where he insulted several of his Democratic colleagues, even calling lawmaker Brian Sims a "lying homosexual."

Metcalfe, representing the 12th district, near Pittsburgh, is a far-right, anti-immigrant, antigay conservative known for frequent dust-ups with those on the other side of the aisle. Back in December, Metcalfe was touched on the arm by a male legislator, prompting him to go into gay-panic mode and accuse the Democratic lawmaker of making a pass at him.

Metcalfe's Friday Facebook post appeared equally unhinged.

Sims, who represents Philadelphia and is Pennsylvania's first openly gay state legislator, responded on Facebook by urging House Speaker Mike Turzai to remove Metcalfe from his position as chair of the "powerful State Government Committee that oversees Civil Rights Bills and Gerrymandering Legislation."

Metcalfe has a long history of right-wing, antigay, anti-immigrant, and antiwoman positions. He is also the same legislator who famously blocked Sims from testifying on the House floor when the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the so-called Defense of Marriage Act. At the time, Metcalfe said allowing the gay elected official to speak would be an "open rebellion against what the word of God has said.
