Republican reaction to Pennsylvania State Rep. Brian Sims videotaping protesters outside of a Philadelphia Planned Parenthood and posting to his social media was swift and harsh once the pro-life group Live Action drew attention to the video posted on Sims's Facebook page last month. Republicans on the state and national levels, including Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, rebuked the gay representative, according to The Inquirer.
On Tuesday, Sims posted a video saying that "two wrongs don't make a right" and promising to "do better for the women of Pennsylvania."
In one video that has garnered more than 1.8 million and drawn the ire of conservatives, Sims approached three teen girls protesting outside of a Planned Parenthood in his district and called them "pseudo-Christian protesters who've been out here shaming young girls for being here."
Conservatives including Cruz took to Twitter to lambaste Sims for what the senator called putting a "bounty" out on the young women and urged Democrats to condemn him.
Another more recent video shows Sims calling out an older woman clutching Rosary beads while protesting Planned Parenthood.
"How many children have you clothed today?" Sims asked in the video. "How many children have you put shoes on their feet today?"
"Or have you just stood outside of a Planned Parenthood shaming people for something they have a constitutional right to do? If you're here about the children, you can pray at home for children," he continued.
"[There's] nothing Christian about what you're doing," he adds. He also calls her a hypocrite for supporting the Catholic Church in light of widespread clergy sex abuse.
Sims pushed back against Live Action having boosted his video on social by tweeting, "Bring it on, Bible Bullies!"
