Charlotte Clymer, a Washington, D.C.-based LGBTQ activist and communications professional for the Human Rights Campaign, found a novel way to bundle cash for her favored presidential candidate, Elizabeth Warren.
Clymer tweeted Sunday evening about a show she was once invested in but that had disappointed her with its series finale. The seemingly random tweet attracted much attention among her 275,000 followers, with many unsuccessfully guessing which series let her down.
Then Clymer turned the discussion into something productive -- she asked curious followers to donate to Warren's campaign, and if $10,000 was raised, she'd reveal the program.
After Clymer exceeded expectations and raised $27,000, she revealed the show with the disappointing finale: HBO's Girls, starring Lena Dunham. The 2017 episode featured Dunham's character struggling to adapt to motherhood -- and Clymer wasn't the only one with complaints.
