The presumptive Democratic nominee said he never sexually assaulted a former staffer.Â
Former vice president and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden took to Morning Joe today to deny allegations by a former staffer that he sexually assaulted her in 1993.
"No, it is not true," he toldMorning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski of Tara Reade's allegation. "I am saying unequivocally it never, never happened, and it didn't. It never happened."
Reade alleges Biden digitally penetrated her in the Capitol Building in 1993 while she was an assistant in his Senate office; she also alleges Biden harassed her when she worked for him. She claims to have filed a report at the time, though it only referred to the alleged harassment. Her mothercalled into Larry King Live in 1993 to speak of "problems" her daughter was having with a "prominent senator."
Biden and his campaign have denied all allegations and noted that several persons who worked in the office at the time have no recollection of the event, a report, or any inappropriate behavior by the then-Senator. There have also been inconsistencies in Reade's story that have undermined her credibility.
On Morning Joe, Biden called for the National Archives to produce any record of complaint made against him by Reade.
"It's 27 years ago. This never happened, and when she first made the claim, we made it clear that it never happened, and that's -- it's as simple as that."
