After announcing earlier this summer that they were expecting, Pete and Chasten Buttigieg have now revealed the birth of their two children. It is assumed that the children are twins.

"Chasten and I are beyond thankful for all the kind wishes since first sharing the news that we're becoming parents," Pete Buttigieg, the 39-year-old United States Secretary of Transportation, wrote in a post. "We are delighted to welcome Penelope Rose and Joseph August Buttigieg to our family." Chasten, 32, shared an almost identical message.

Joseph is also the name of Pete's father.

The history-making couple have been looking to become parents for some time. In August, the pair announced they would soon be growing the family, which already includes their two dogs, Truman and Buddy.

Chasten Buttigieg previously called the process of adoption a "weird cycle of anger and frustration and hope." In a profile he explained that the couple, on multiple occasions, have been given prospects that seem fruitful only for something to not work out in the end.

The news makes Pete Buttigieg the first out gay parent in the U.S. Cabinet. This comes after he previously became the first out gay person confirmed by the Senate for a seat in the U.S. Cabinet.

Pete and Chasten met in 2015 on Hinge before getting married in 2018 after Pete proposed in a terminal at Chicago's O'Hare airport. Six months after their marriage, Pete's father, who shares a name with one of the newborns, died.
