The Minnesota Democrat is the first LGBTQ+ person to represent the state in Congress.
U.S. Rep. Angie Craig, who represents Minnesota’s Second Congressional District, announced Monday that she may run for the U.S. Senate.

"I am giving serious consideration to the open Senate seat in Minnesota," she wrote in a post on social media. "I’ll be talking to Minnesotans in the weeks ahead about the best way to continue to serve my community and will make a decision in the near future."
Craig is currently the ranking member of the House Committee on Agriculture.
Craig, who is the first out LGBTQ+ person to represent Minnesota in Congress, was first elected in 2018. She flipped a Republican district.
“I represent the most evenly divided district in America currently represented by a Democrat,” Craig previously toldThe Advocate. “That means I sit down with everyone, and certainly on these issues where I’ve had opportunities in the past, always privately.”
As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Craig said she understands firsthand the importance of representation and visibility. She and her wife, Cheryl Greene, are mothers to grown children. In the interview, Craig highlighted how she often uses her personal story to build bridges with Republican colleagues. “I keep trying by example,” she said. “My wife and I have been married for nearly 20 years. We’ve raised four sons together. We’ve got two grandsons.”
