We smell a white wedding. Diners, Drive-ins and Dives host Guy Fieri officiated marriages for 101 same-sex couples in the Sunshine State during Miami's annual South Beach Food & Wine Festival. The mass nuptials took place at The James Royal Palm Hotel, hosted by Oprah's personal (gay) chef, Art Smith.
Smith created a social media contest after same-sex marriage became legal in Florida, with the winners retweeting the hashtag, #101gayweddings. Fieri said he wanted to officiate the marriages in honor of his late sister, who was gay.
It was nothing short of fabulous, Page Six reports. A small orchestra played as the couples made their way down the impromptu aisle created in the hotel's courtyard. After Fieri pronounced everyone legally wed, the couples and guests dove into a feast of fried chicken, grilled lamb, empanadas, crab-stuffed avocados, and a seven-tier cake from Duff Goldman, star of the Food Network reality show Ace of Cakes.
"My only agenda is to celebrate this and make it true in every state," Goldman said, according to Page Six. Recently, Goldman baked a cake for a lesbian couple who had been refused service by a homophobic baker. Check out pictures of the happy event below:
