In an effort to expose the hypocrisy of one of the Republican Party's presidential hopefuls and narrow the field, Jon Stewart played a fun game called "Let's Get Rid of Ted Cruz!" on Tuesday night's episode of The Daily Show, citing the many ways in which Cruz has failed to live up to the standards of ... Ted Cruz.
Stewart started the segment by pointing out how the Texas senator and 2014's Phobie of the Year criticized President Obama for his many fundraising efforts, when he himself was absent for the Senate vote on Loretta Lynch's confirmation as attorney general because he was raising funds for his campaign.
"That's weird. How did Ted Cruz's unambiguously 'no' vote turn into unambiguously, no vote?" Stewart asked, as Cruz had promised to vote against her.
The climax of the comedic "game" came when Stewart recalls the comments the notoriously antigay Cruz made regarding same-sex marriage and efforts to allow religion-based discrimination against LGBT people.
"We look at the jihad that is being waged right now in Indiana and Arkansas going after people of faith who respect the biblical teaching that marriage is the union of one man and one woman," said Cruz in a video clip from an April speech.
"So you want a president that can bring people together, who understands that if you are pro-marriage equality, you are the same as ISIS?" asked Stewart, who had noted that Cruz has claimed President Obama has divided the nation. The host responded sarcastically, "Got it."
