So much for unconditional support of one's children -- leading homophobe Pat Robertson says parents should under no circumstances attend a child's same-sex wedding.

"By your attendance at the ceremony, you are agreeing with it ... I just wouldn't go," the televangelist Thursday told a viewer of his TV show, The 700 Club, who wondered if she and her husband should attend their gay child's wedding. "I would tell your child, 'I love you but I cannot condone this. We will always love you but I don't condone this activity.'"

The parents were reportedly divided about whether to go, but Robertson urged them to "be in unity," with neither of them attending the wedding. He's offered similar advice in the past. In 2012, he told a viewer who asked if she should be a bridesmaid or even a guest at her lesbian sister's wedding, "'The answer is to tell your sister, 'I love you but I cannot participate a ceremony that is contrary to God's word, period.'"

Trudy Ring is The Advocate’s senior politics editor and copy chief. She has been a reporter and editor for daily newspapers and LGBTQ+ weeklies/monthlies, trade magazines, and reference books. She is a political junkie who thinks even the wonkiest details are fascinating, and she always loves to see political candidates who are groundbreaking in some way. She enjoys writing about other topics as well, including religion (she’s interested in what people believe and why), literature, theater, and film. Trudy is a proud “old movie weirdo” and loves the Hollywood films of the 1930s and ’40s above all others. Other interests include classic rock music (Bruce Springsteen rules!) and history. Oh, and she was a Jeopardy! contestant back in 1998 and won two games. Not up there with Amy Schneider, but Trudy still takes pride in this achievement.
