This fall, MTV and Logo are teaming up with Laverne Cox to air a documentary about the lives of trans youth between the ages of 14 and 24. The show, titled Trans Teen: The Documentary, will feature young trans individuals from a diverse set of backgrounds.

The two networks -- both subsidiaries of media giant Viacom -- will air the hour-long documentary simultaneously. This marks the third time Cox has worked with Viacom, after her appearance on VH1's I Want to Work for Diddy in 2008, and TRANSform Me, a 2010 reality makeover show on VH1 which Cox produced and in which she also starred.

According to BuzzFeed, Trans Teen was cast using unorthodox methods, finding subjects in person on Cox's recent college speaking tour and through users' YouTube channels.

Cox confirmed her involvement this morning on her Twitter account.

After recent allegations of transphobia at Logo after the network aired an episode of RuPaul's Drag Race that many found offensive, today's announcement could work to soothe tensions between viewers of the LGBT-centric network. Responding to that controversy earlier this month, the network wrote, "We are committed to sharing a diverse range of trans stories across all of our screens and look forward to featuring positive and groundbreaking stories of trans people in the future."
