Qbdoo (rhymes with "Scooby-Doo"), known as Q for short, is an 8-year-old Brooklynite who loves reading, eating vegetables and fruit, and hanging with his friends. He can't stand scary movies -- not that he's allowed to watch them anyway. He had a great time pretending to be a reporter in the video below. Oh yeah, and he just happens to be transgender.
This week, Q opened up to the Empire State Pride Agenda about what it means to be him in a handwritten letter -- sprinkled with heartwarming details and several misspellings -- that he then recorded himself reading aloud. Along with his mother, Francisca, Q lent his story to the Pride Agenda's Change.org petition to protect LGBT youth from "conversion" therapy and secure trans New Yorkers basic civil rights.
"I don't know why I am a boy. I just know it," Q writes. "Some people forget that I am a boy. I feel frus[trated] but I remind them and I feel bett[er]."
Francisca offered support for her son in her own letter, which reads in part, "Two years ago, when Q was just six years old, he started to get really frustrated about himself, his body, his clothes. ... Little by little he stated more and more clearly how he knew he was a boy; first to me, then to his father, then to school and the world. ... With the recognition that he was truly a boy, he was fully human and happy."
Q's letter has now been read by thousands, with his video seeing over 10,000 views since yesterday. Watch him read it below and read it in full here.
