Donald Trump has partnered with a far-right hate group to create an online portal allowing people to snitch on public schools that have diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
The Trump Administration announced Thursday the launch of
EndDEI.ed.gov, which allows anyone to report "divisive ideologies and indoctrination," dubbing it "illegal discriminatory practices at institutions of learning." The press release for the website did not feature any government officials or education experts, but rather a quote from Tiffany Justice, a co-founder of Moms for Liberty, who said the goal was to end the supposed teachings of "critical theory, rogue sex education, and divisive ideologies."
Moms For Liberty has been designated as an extremist hate group by the
Southern Poverty Law Center for its efforts promoting book bans and the censorship of LGBTQ+ and race-inclusive curriculum, which it calls "woke indoctrination." The group came under fire in 2023 for prominently using a quote from Adolf Hitler in an Indiana chapter’s inaugural newsletter
"The fact that Trump’s — bigoted, extremist — effort to end diversity, inclusion, & equity in schools uses Moms for Liberty as its only validation tells you everything you need to know,"
Amy Spitalnick, CEO of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, wrote on X, formerly Twitter. "The same Moms for Liberty that approvingly quoted Hitler & has deep ties to violent groups like the Proud Boys."
The portal's focus on so-called "critical theory" and "rogue sex education" suggests that content related to race and LGBTQ+ identities are a target, as Moms For Liberty incorrectly conflates LGBTQ+ identities with inappropriate sexual content, or education on race with reverse discrimination.
The Committee on Education and Workforce Democrats noted that Trump's Education Department is claiming to combat discrimination while also thwarting student racial discrimination and sexual assault investigations.
"First, ED [Education Department] paused thousands of racial discrimination and sexual assault cases, delaying students' justice," the group wrote. "Now ED is asking parents to 'snitch' on teachers they perceive to be 'divisive.' This does not protect students' civil rights. This only sows division and fear."
Users on social media have suggested flooding the portal, or its related email
DEIAtruth@opm.gov, by signing it up for newsletters from Scientology, porn websites, or the Satanic Temple. Others have suggested sending it the script of The Bee Movie, or warnings that qualified government employees are being replaced with incompetent white men. Some have been reporting Elon Musk as a DEI hire.
Several nonprofits told
The Bulwarkthat the government email had been signed up for their newsletter, and a Democratic operative said that it had been signed up for multiple Democratic party fundraising email lists.
