Sacramento’s communities stand together to #StayLoud and #ResistHate. Read more below.
Many Pride parades and festivals faced a quandary between wanting to be represented in the national Equality Marches and retaining their own Pride traditions. The Sacramento LGBT Community Center in partnership with Equality California, the California Endowment, and a coalition of community groups organized to stand in solidarity and March for Equality before Sacramento Pride.
The Sac Center posted this statement: “With so many communities under threat and facing bigotry and hate, it’s time for us all to come together to promote love and #ResistHate. Please join us as an advocate, ally, friend, or family member and March for Equality in Sacramento on Saturday, June 3 at 9 a.m. as we gather to march for equality before the Sacramento Pride Parade.”
So both the march and the parade happened, as well as a great Pride festival. The Pride Stage lineup included Alex Newell, Shea Couleé, the Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus, and the amazing Flock of Seagirls.
