President Trump hasn't proclaimed it Pride Month, but The Advocate and the Beverly Center did so Friday, with an event honoring activists from all 50 states. Leading the honorees was this year's Hall of Fame inductee, Emma Gonzalez, the bisexual Parkland, Fla., student who has helped transform the conversation about gun violence across the country. Sarah Boone, executive director of Extraordinary Families, was honored as the California Champion and made a call to action to support inclusive foster care and adoption programs with donations or by becoming foster parents or mentors. Legacy honorees Jewel Thais-Williams and Cece Suazo were honored for being examples to queer people of color as the founder of the legendary Catch One nightclub and as house mother to the House of LaBeija, respectively. Actress Laverne Cox led a countdown to lighting up the Beverly Center in rainbow colors for the first time, showing its pride to Los Angeles.
