The Advocate kicked off Pride season in grand style Friday with the publication's Champions of Pride event at Los Angeles's Beverly Center. More than a mere excuse to drink and party, Champions of Pride honored advocates and activists in all 50 states and the nation's capital. Special honorees included Emma Gonzalez, the Parkland, Fla., survivor turned gun control activist; nightlife legend and health advocate Jewel Thais-Williams; ball scene icon Cece Suazo; and Sarah Boone, the CEO of Extraordinary Families, which has helped hundreds of LGBT people become foster and adoptive parents. Not only was the Beverly Center lit in Pride rainbow colors, but American Idol star Ada Vox wowed the crowd with some amazing vocals. Click through to check out the scene.
