Queer/pride, a 3-day queer music and performance festival on Seattle's Capitol Hill, took place Friday, June 28 - Sunday, June 30, 2019. The outdoor street party had a main stage, dance floors, bars, and a new VIP experience. This year's queer/pride talent lineup included drag artists from RuPaul's Drag Race, nationally recognized DJs, musical acts, and some of Seattle's most talented queer performers.
Headlining queer/pride was Big Freedia. Known as the "Queen of Bounce," Freedia is a New Orleans-based rapper and ambassador of Bounce music. "We are excited to bring Big Freedia back to Seattle," said Joey Burgess, owner of queer/bar.
Also headlining queer/pride festival with Big Freedia is Grammy-award winning and internationally known singer, songwriter, dancer, actress, and producer, Mya. She recently celebrated 20 years in the music industry by releasing her 9th album, T.K.O. Mya is also an activist and philanthropist and has raised money for numerous causes including breast cancer research, homeless LGBTQIA+ youth and Africare, an organization addressing health, economic development, women's empowerment and youth engagement in Africa.
Drag performance has become an integral part of Pride celebrations across the globe and queer/pride festival was proud to present a stellar lineup of drag artists from Rupaul's Drag Race including the iconic season 10 and season 11 contestant, Vanessa "Vanjie" Mateo, season 11 runner-up Brooke Lynn Hytes, season 11 top four contestants, Silky Ganache and A'keria Davenport, season 7 top three contestant, Pearl Liaison, and additional season 11 contestants also be performed throughout the 3-day festival. Joining the drag race queens was the resident queer/bar MX. cast.
Queer/pride featured some of Seattle's hottest queer musical talent including Left at London, a transgender woman who connects with her audience through her pop writing sensibility and introspective lyricism and rapper, DoNormaal who has been wowing audiences with her hypnotic, powerful rhymes since her debut in 2015.
In addition to three days of performance and celebrating Pride, queer/pride also brought awareness to national nonprofit organization, OutRight Action International. OutRight was chosen as the nonprofit partner beneficiary for the 2019 queer/pride festival because queer/bar wanted to partner with an organization working to improve the lives of LGBTIQ people across the globe.
