The Queens Pride Parade and Multicutural Festival was founded in Jackson Heights in 1993. Started by Daniel Dromm and Maritza Martinez, it is reportedly the second Pride festival started in New York City after Manhattan's Pride march. It was kicked off to memoralize Julio Rivera, a Jackson Heights resident.
Rivera had been murdered.
An estimated 10,000 people attended the first Queens Pride Parade. Here, we revisit that event.
