After a three-year old video surfaced of Darryl DePiano, the owner of Philadelphia gay bar ICandy, repeatedly using a racial epithet, he tried to make amends to patrons.

At the bar on Friday, Drag Race star Shangela introduced DePiano, saying she understood it might appear she condones DePiano's language by appearing at ICandy.

"I'm here to make it right," the African-American drag performer said, saying she considered the advice of idols like RuPaul and actress Jenifer Lewis before committing to the appearance. "I'm a bitch who wants to make it better."

DePiano then came on stage, appearing contrite.

"I put an apology out, surely everyone's seen it, but it means more to me to tell you personally, face-to-face," DePiano said. "For those that know me, that's not really who I am or what I stand for... Unfortunately, I have to take full responsibility for my really poor actions and the really disgusting language that I used." Watch below.

Shangela said ICandy's staff would undergo diversity training, which may be necessary as bar staff have previously been accused of racism. Earlier this year, bouncers reportedly turned away people wearing Timberland boots, which are associated with hip-hop culture.
