Members of the antigay Westboro Baptist Church are in rural Kentucky today to picket Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis, and four members demonstrated outside three Louisville churches Sunday morning in what the Courier-Journal described as a warm-up for today's big event.
The protesters, including the son and daughter of the late founder of the church, reportedly demonstrated for about 30 minutes each outside Southeast Christian Church's satellite campus near Dixie Highway, St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Fern Creek and nearby Highview Baptist Church.
For the most part, the newspaper said the protests were peaceful with passersby flipping off the four protesters, or yelling at them.
Steve Drain, a Topeka, Ks. construction manager, told the Courier-Journal he, Fred Phelps Jr., his wife Betty and Shirley Phelps-Rope arrived Saturday night and rented a car that they plan to drive to Davis's home in Morehead, Ky. today.
Their goal, Drain told the paper is to tell Davis that she's a hypocrite for violating the biblical directive against divorce and remarriage, saying Davis "is sitting over there remarrying like she's changing her socks."
