A gay man, Azya Babula, tweeted out a video on Friday about how his parents, ex-Jehovah's Witnesses, had finally come to accept his sexuality. The tweet has since gone viral, garnering over 400,000 "likes" and over 50,000 re-tweets.
In the video, 21-year-old Babula was emotional but smiling as he recounted his story.
In the caption, Babula wrote, "My parents(ex-Jehovah's witnesses) finally told me they loved me and fully accepted me being gay and then we had a full 2-hour convo about boys and exes and stuff. 21 years later y'all and the burden has been lifted off my shoulders I'M SO HAPPY BUT CAN'T STOP CRYING."
When talking with Pinknews, Babula discussed the tough relationship he and his parents have had throughout the years, ever since his coming out in middle school.
Babula stated that his mom knew, but no one ever spoke about it, as his sexuality was viewed as "taboo."
His parents eventually left their faith as Jehovahs Witnesses stating that the "hatred" within that church had become too much.
However, Babula's recent tweet has shown us that change has occurred.
"They finally told me that they understand it's not a choice, apologized that it took so long, and now I can freely talk about it," Babula said. "But it was a very hard journey to get here."
