Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski have added yet another accolade to their already lengthy figure skating careers. The former Olympians have been named as NBC's primary figure skating commentators, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The duo received praise for their commentary work and on-screen chemistry earlier this year, when they covered the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
Both Weir and Lipinski used their expertise during the Sochi Olympics to not only cover the sport, but provide firsthand exposition to figure staking fans, from the casual to the committed. Not to mention, the duo can dress. Who can forget those devilishly chic matching pink blazers?
It is unclear how this will affect NBC's current primary figure skating commentators Tom Hammond, Scott Hamilton, and Sandra Bezic, who have covered the past four Olympics for NBC. Hamilton has confirmed, however, that his tenure as a primary commentator has come to an end. According to Red Eye Chicago, Hamilton expressed the following statement via text message:
"I was blessed to have that seat for seven Olympics. I always had the best interests of skating and the skaters at heart. I never wanted it to be about me, and I still don't. I wish them great success."
