Former pro hockey player and LGBT Ally Sean Avery is trying his hand at acting next month. The 34-year-old has been a vocal supporter of marriage equality since 2011, and joined the board of directors of Athlete Ally in 2012. He will star in the Christy Smith-Sloman play Negative Is Positive, which opens November 6 at New York's Theater for the New City.
"I'm not pursuing acting full time, but rather excited about the opportunity to have an experience like live theater to scratch of my bucket list," said Avery. Sloman, meanwhile, described the former Ranger as a "natural."
Following its world premiere, Negative Is Positive will run through November 30 with the possibility of an extension.
