ABC has announced its plans for a new comedy series, Men in Shorts, based on the experiences of gay pro soccer player Robbie Rogers, Entertainment Weekly reports.

The series, to be written by Claudia Lonow and Jordon Nardino, focuses on a young professional footballer who comes out of the closet. Storyline Entertainment and Universal Television have optioned his story rights for the series.

While little additional information has been released about the series, Rogers tweeted his enthusiasm for the project Tuesday, saying, "Really excited to be a part of this." Rogers has signed on as a producer for the series.

Rogers was one of several high-profile athletes to come out within the past couple of years, joining the likes of Michael Sam, Brittney Griner, and Jason Collins. He has also penned a book, Coming Out to Play, which will be published in late November. Rogers currently plays for the Los Angeles Galaxy.
