The boxer used a vile word to rile up his opponent.
While promoting an upcoming boxing match against Conor McGregor, Floyd Mayweather threw several verbal punches against his opponent. "Yeah, we gonna talk about this p*ssy. You punk, you fa**ot," the boxer screamed during a Friday news conference on the London stop of their world promotional tour.
McGregor remained silent as the crowd responded with a series of boos. Fans have defended the athlete's use of the homophobic slur, noting that McGregor previously yelled at Mayweather to "Dance for me, boy." The phrase references a long, racist history of referring to black men as boys or dancing monkeys.
Mayweather's representatives later offered a ridiculous explanation, telling TMZ Sports, "The reason Floyd called Conor the F word is because Conor called Floyd a monkey. Floyd has nothing against gays or lesbians at all ... Floyd has them on his staff. Floyd has nothing but the utmost respect for gays and lesbians."
