World Wrestling Entertainment has signed on its first openly gay wrestler.
Jake Atlas is set to report to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Fla., according to SoCalUncensored.com. The blog Last Word on Wrestlinginitially broke the story.
Atlas had previously appeared on an episode of the reality show Undercover Boss featuring WWE Chief Brand Manager Stephanie McMahon. Atlas explained to McMahon on the show he wanted to become the company's first signed wrestler who was out. At the end of the show, he was offered a "brand ambassador" contract.
But as far as wrestling, he continued in independent leagues and matches. He had discussed a contract with another company, AEW, but nothing came of it.
Atlas, 24, also appeared on the first episode of WWE PC Tryouts on YouTube, and has also competed in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's Battle of Los Angeles.
Previously discussing his career with OutSports after winning the PCW UltraLight title, Atlas shared that "to have management believe in my story and background, allowing me to showcase my pride with the lifestyle I live, has been an incredible sense of relief."
"I am one of the leading faces of PCW Ultra, along with some of the greatest talent in the world," he continued. "I am also gay. I am proud of that."
