Out figure skater and Olympic medalist Adam Rippon has slammed disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong for his recent comments on trans athletes.
Both men are starring in Fox's reality series Stars on Mars. During a conversation on last Monday night's episode, Armstrong shared his opinion that trans athletes should compete in a separate category.
The former Olympic cyclist began by referencing his podcast The Forward, which features discussions on trans athletes with guests like Caitlyn Jenner.
Referring to an episode of the podcast, Armstrong told Stars on Mars castmate Ronda Rousey, "I said, ‘Listen, this is real simple: You want to transition, let’s do it. You have your own category. We’re gonna have a whole new division. We’ll celebrate you just like we celebrate everybody else. Let’s go.’ What’s unfair about that?"
Rippon, who listened in on the conversation, said aside to Ariel Winter (Modern Family): “That is so disheartening.”
"Those comments here, in this experiment, have completely shifted the energy and completely shifted the focus. I will not ever forget them," he added in a talking head segment.
In a follow-up interview with The Daily Beast, Rippon said of Armstrong's comments, "It was just so inappropriate. Nobody wanted to have this conversation. Especially on this cute little reality show where we all had to live together for weeks on end."
"I don’t need to hear what the greatest cheater in American history has to say about what he thinks is an unfair advantage," he continued.
Armstrong, who was stripped of his cycling titles and awards after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2013, has admitted to cheating for the majority of his career.
